How To Choose A Great Web Developer

So you are looking for a revamp to your current site, or starting afresh – we want you to be furnished with the right information, before you sink your hard earned money into the wrong fit for you.

Here are three things you should think about:

1.     Are they just a web design company, or do they understand business?

It’s no use having the best-looking site that nobody is visiting.  Web design requires more than an artistic flair – there’s a lot of science behind the scenes as well. If that’s not incorporated into your website design, Google and the other search engines may just ignore it, or you may find potential clients bounce away after only a few seconds.

Additionally, a good web designer is someone who can understand how your business works and will ask questions that seem to have nothing to do with web design. Questions like “what’s your compelling offer?” and “what other kinds of advertising are you doing?” – it might not seem like it, but these kinds of questions have a fundamental impact on the web design you end up with.

Websites today are a high performing part of most company’s everyday business, just as much or even more than a retail storefront would be. A business mind is integral.

2.     Do they have a successful history in creating websites?

The difference between a good web designer and a bad one, is to be found in the results their clients are experiencing.  No real return on investment? Reconsider them. It often pays to ask your about results before you continue with them.

That in mind, you should understand that it’s not always the cheapest website design that delivers the best return. Set your budget too low and you will miss out on working with companies that may think a little more outside the square, with the abilities to see significantly higher return on investment.

3.     Do they do all their work in-house or outsource it?

If you happen to work with a company that outsources its programming, you may end up regretting that decision. Distance means a slower turnaround for edits or updates. And, as we have discovered recently from a new client, the code may be written in a different dialect. PHP is always going to be a little different when written in Spanish! And it makes it a little more complicated to fix, if a fix is needed.
