The Overall Business Grid or OBG is a tool we've created that helps compare you against competitors and appraise some important aspects of your business relevant to marketing.

For Example

...What you have here is part of the analysis of positioning.  It lets us identify what positioning you should probably be occupying in terms of the Value Disciplines developed by Michael Treacy and Fred Wiersema.

But it's not just curiosity that drives this.

What you can get out of this is a discovery that in fact you are well-placed to use a different mode of differentiation.

For instance, from the snippet above, we might identify that a particular client has a strength not in the high-quality and high-expense relationship model they might be struggling to pursue, but instead something focussing on quality and efficiency and even price.

If they were a residential plumbing company, it might go something like this...

Rather than focussing on the relationship, you should be focussing on the natural advantages you have in price, efficiency, response-time and organisation.

Another Example

Here's another quick example, this time from the analysis of revenue sources.

Let's say it's the same residential plumbing company as above.

Something we might recommend is this...

You currently use fee-for-service models, but there is an opportunity to also use different models.  We recommend trying two:

1. Subscription - this would apply to periodic programmed checks along with a discounted fee rate should something need to be done.  This locks in sales in advance.

2. Take the bookings feature online and create a database and payment gateway to support full online book and pay.
